About us
Who we are
Be well, teach well, learn well.
At the English department of the University of Graz, we have established a special research group focusing on well-being in language education. It reflects the main research interests of several members of staff and graduate students who are studying ways of improving the well-being of both learners and teachers involved in language education.
Through rigorous research, exceptional teaching activities, and partnerships with practitioners, educators, researchers, and policymakers worldwide, we are working to explore the most challenging and exciting questions in language education with the aim of fostering sustainable well-being in society globally.
Teaching is more than academic achievement
“Teaching is unavoidably a moral endeavor... education (and schooling as a means to it) serves more expansive ends than scores of academic achievement, and thus the contributions that teachers make to the moral life of classrooms, to the moral lives that our... students lead, and to the character of society are critical.”
— Sanger & Osguthorpe, 2011, p. 570
